Why is there such a big gap in the price of solar panels?

When choosing solar panels, many customers will wonder why the prices of solar panels with the same appearance are very different? Some solar panels only cost 3 yuan/watt, while others cost nearly 20 yuan/watt. What is the reason for such a big gap?

#01 lighter weight

When the RV leaves the factory, the RV manufacturer will have restrictions on the weight in order to meet the national policy. For example, the road weight of the trailer RV cannot be higher than 700kg.

The weight of the RV itself, various household appliances, and daily necessities have occupied a great weight. The lighter the solar panel while maintaining efficiency, the better. Of course, the lighter the solar panel, the higher the price.

At present, the weight of lightweight solar panels made of ETFE packaging materials on the market is only 30% of that of ordinary glass panels. While reducing the weight, the durability and impact resistance under the outdoor scene of RV movement remain stable, and there will be no breakage of glass components.

#02 excellent heat dissipation

Many riders believe that the more sun the solar panel irradiates, the hotter the solar panel, the greater the power generation of the battery. In fact, when the solar panel is at 25 ℃ and the light is 90 °, its power generation efficiency is the highest. When the temperature exceeds 25 ℃, the power generation power of the solar panel decreases by 0.3% for every 1 ℃ increase in temperature.

Therefore, when ordinary glass is used as the packaging surface, due to the light and heat conduction characteristics of the glass, the temperature of the cell will be greatly increased, thus affecting the power generation power.

When it is hot in summer, touching the glass surface of the solar panel is a hot state where you can “fry eggs”. In this case, although there is plenty of sunshine outside and the outdoor temperature is high, the power generation cannot reach the expected power generation of customers.

#03 A grade solar cell

Crystalline silicon cells determine the quality of solar panels

The solar panel is composed of  “crystalline silicon cells”, and then the solar panel is composed of packaging process. Therefore, the type and quality of “invisible cells” is one of the important determinants of power generation efficiency and the service life of solar panels.

Solar cells are divided into monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon by type. With the maturity of technology, monocrystalline silicon has gradually become the mainstream because of its advantages in price and efficiency.

Because the solar cells that make up the solar panel are graded, so the solar panel is also graded. Solar cells include three levels: A, B, and C.

Class A solar cells are basically free of defects and may have a few scratches

Class B solar cells may have defects such as slurry leakage, false printing, broken grid, and so on

Class C solar cells are mainly recycled cells, which may have problems such as edge collapse, large-area false printing, line falling off, serious contamination, and so on.

However, these solar cells are legal and are used in solar panels as qualified products. The price, power generation effect, and service life of different quality levels will vary, but as qualified products, grade B and C solar cells have low prices and will be used by some businesses. This explains the great difference in the market price of 100 Watt Solar panels.

The silicon material used in solar cells is very easy to break and damage, so the packaging process will also affect the integrity of solar cells.

After the solar panel completes the packaging process, it needs to be fully tested by the El testing instrument. The solar panels with cracks and black agglomeration under the El test are class B or C solar panels, and these black shadows are broken grids and cracks.

When invisible to the naked eye, many customers will feel that these solar panels are no different, but in practical use, there will be great differences in power generation efficiency and service life. Splits and fragments will not only affect the power generation efficiency and use but also cause potential safety hazards due to the local solar cell current short circuit.

To sum up: there are several reasons affecting the price of solar panels

①. The lighter the packaging materials of solar cells, the less the weight of the car body, the less the damage to the car, and the higher the price;

②. The packaging materials (surface material, aluminum frame, backplate, etc.) of solar panels have good corrosion resistance. At the same time, the better the heat dissipation, stress, and power generation of solar panels, and the higher the price;

③. For the selection of solar monocrystalline silicon, the higher the quality grade of monocrystalline silicon, the higher the power generation efficiency of solar panels, and the higher the price.

Therefore, in the long run, if you want higher power generation efficiency, durability, and durability, you still need to choose large brand high-quality solar panels.
