Most of the electrical appliances in our RV need to be powered by the 12V power supply system in the vehicle. The RV battery is to the RV like food to mankind. Without a sufficient power supply, the household appliances in the RV are impossible to talk about.
Since we all know the importance of batteries to RV, but many friends who have just bought RV do not know enough about RV batteries, there will be problems in the process of use, resulting in the reduction of battery life.
In fact, take our common lead-acid battery as an example. A brand-new lead-acid battery can be used for 5 years or more when it is properly maintained and used. Therefore, we should know some basic knowledge about RV battery systems.
What is a battery? As we all know, the battery is to put the rich electric energy into the memory and release it when we need it, just as we save the idle money in the bank.
Specifically, there are several types of RV batteries according to their purposes, which are used for the starting batteries of ships and cars. The general properties of this battery are instantaneous high current, strong discharge capacity and weak endurance. It is a liquid-rich battery. The other is the battery, such as the lead-acid battery, which has strong deep discharge capacity and weak high current discharge capacity. It is a lean liquid battery.
(lithium battery is also a battery type that many netizens like to refit in recent years. It is recognized by everyone because of its good performance and lightweight. However, lithium battery also has some disadvantages, such as potential safety hazards, so it is not included in our description.)
50% regularity of RV battery
What is the 50% law of RV battery? The capacity of the battery is in ampere-hours (ah). Theoretically, a 100Ah battery should provide 1A current and can be used for 100 hours; Or a 100A current provides an hour of power supply, but the theory is only a theory after all, which is not so simple in fact.
But we can be sure that a 100Ah battery can only effectively use 50ah. Because, in the process of using the battery, we also need to consider the factors that the actual capacity of the battery will vary according to the current. The higher the current, the less the actual capacity.
Can increasing the number of batteries solve the problem of insufficient power?
Insufficient electricity on the RV seems to have been a problem perplexing RV users. Many netizens began to refit the battery system for the RV after picking up the car. Some will install 2-4 batteries to instantly increase the power from 100Ah to 200ah or even 400ah.
According to the test results in the table above, although your battery has 400ah, it can only use about half of the battery power, that is, 200ah. Why on earth is this?
We can well understand this phenomenon through the principle of connectors in physics. The flow at the water outlet is constant. The water flow of the last container from the water injection port to the water outlet is in the form of process decline.
When the water volume of the container closest to the water outlet is less than 20%, we judge that the system will not work, so we need to inject a new water source.
When the water inlet is opened, we will find that not all the water we inject can be used by the water outlet. It takes time to balance this process. Finally, multiple connectors can only maintain about 60% of the water consumption. When we grafted this principle onto the battery power consumption of RV, this principle basically holds, which is why we can’t fully use the battery with larger capacity.
Connection form of the storage battery
If the battery is allowed to maintain the same current intensity, but increase the voltage. Two 6V batteries can be connected in series to produce a total voltage of 12V, but the current remains unchanged. The operation is also simple. Connect the jumper from the negative pole of one battery to the positive pole of another battery.
Parallel batteries increase the current, but the voltage remains the same. If two 6V batteries are connected in parallel, the voltage is maintained at 6V, but the current will increase. Parallel connection is accomplished by connecting two positive terminals to two negative terminals. Of course, other battery packs will be connected in parallel and in series to form an integral battery pack system.
Storage and maintenance of storage battery
When winter comes, the RV usually stops use for several months in winter, and the battery will discharge naturally over time. Therefore, if you don’t check it often, the battery will run out of power, which will affect the service life of the battery. You can consider removing the batteries from the car and taking them home.
If the power is less than 80%, check the voltage and charge it every month. If the battery cannot be removed from your device, some precautions need to be taken to keep the battery working properly. Devices that disconnect the battery in the RV, such as radios, refrigerators, smoke detectors and propane detectors, will also consume a certain amount of power over time.
When the battery is discharged naturally, charge the battery regularly and maintain the frequency of charging once a month.
