How To Avoid Poor Installation of Solar Panels?

The solar panels you purchased have finally arrived, and the engineer is going to install them. You are so looking forward to generating enough electricity every day after the installation so that you can benefit from them. But do you know what matters need attention in the installation process of the solar panels? These matters are very important. If they are ignored, the power generation of the whole solar system will be affected.

1. Transportation process

Firstly, the solar panel is transported to the passage between the rows or columns where the solar panel is installed, to speed up the installation speed of the construction personnel. The solar panels and related components of the PV system shall not be damaged by collision during storage, handling, and hoisting. Special lifting belts and nylon cable must be used for photovoltaic plate hoisting, and steel wire rope is strictly prohibited. The hoisting must be vertical, and it is strictly forbidden to drag and swing in the air. Solar panels are fragile, and cannot be piled up too high, and collision is strictly prohibited. In particular, the surface of the glass and the backsheet of the solar panel should be prevented from the direct impact of hard objects, to avoid damaging the solar panel.

2. Classify

Before the installation of the solar panel, the solar panel shall be grouped according to the measured technical parameters and curves provided by the manufacturer of the solar panel. The solar panels with similar peak working current shall be connected in series, and solar energy panels with similar peak working voltage shall be parallel together to give full play to the overall efficiency of the solar panel.

3. Installation tools

Must use insulation tools, check whether the installation devices are complete, common tools: multimeter, horizontal ruler, thread pulling pliers, small screwdriver, waterproof tape, cross screwdriver, sharp nose pliers, flat spanner, etc. Check whether the number of screws and nuts is correct and whether they match the hole position; Whether the support of solar panel is stable and safe; Whether the specifications of solar panels meet the construction design, the quantity and size must be the same, and the surface shall not be damaged; Whether the wire specification of the battery meets the construction design and the length.

4. Solar panel placement

Place the solar panels in sequence on the support according to the drawings, and use wires to pass through the fixing holes of the bracket and the frame of the solar panel. The installation of the solar panel shall be from bottom to bottom, and installed in pieces. The installation direction of the screw shall be from inside to outside. To ensure adjustable allowance of support, the connecting bolts shall not be fastened. The steps for adjusting the mounting surface of the solar panel are as follows:

  • Adjust the position of the first and the last two solar panel fixing rods and fasten them.
  • Tie the pay-off rope to the upper and lower ends of the first and last two solar panel fixing rods, and tighten them.
  • Taking the pay-off rope as the benchmark, adjust the remaining solar panel fixing rods to make them in a plane.
  • Pre-tighten all bolts.

5. Solar panel installation

During the installation of a solar panel, it is necessary to take it lightly to avoid damaging the protective glass on the surface of a solar cell. The connecting bolts of the solar panel shall be provided with a spring washer and washer. After fastening, exposed parts of bolts and nuts shall be painted to prevent looseness. And after the installation, painting shall be made; The installation of solar panels must be horizontal and vertical, and the spacing of solar panels shall be consistent. Note the direction of the junction box of the solar panel.

The installation site must be open, and trees, billboards, and mountains shall be avoided on both sides of the installation site, which will affect the lighting. Avoid cables, wires, or other facilities affecting the construction above the installation site. Understand the cables, pipelines, or other facilities under construction that affect the construction, and avoid construction in low-lying or water-prone places.

According to the drawings to determine the installation position and installation angle of solar panels, this is the most important step in the installation of solar panels.   When installing the solar panel, it should face south or west within 15 degrees, and avoid the shielding of the solar panel itself.

The solar panel shall be as close to the battery and electric energy regulating equipment as possible to shorten the line distance as far as possible to reduce line loss. The distance between the line and the combiner box shall not be too far and evenly distributed.

When installing solar panels in the sun, the solar panels shall be covered with opaque materials such as black plastic film, packing paper, and other materials to avoid the high output voltage affecting the connection operation or the danger of electric shock of construction personnel.

In the installation of the panel, pay attention to the positive and negative pole output of the solar panel, and it cannot be short-circuited, otherwise, it may cause a fire. The connection pipe is required for solar panel wiring to prevent the aging of sunlight. The terminal shall be firm to prevent virtual connection or open circuit. The battery pole terminal shall be firm. Pay attention to polarity during installation, and do not short circuit to avoid fire.

Do not touch or operate solar panels with broken glass, broken backsheet, and damaged backsheet unless the panel is disconnected and you are wearing personal protective equipment.   Pay attention to the protection of the electrical switch, do not disconnect the electrical connection under the condition of load, and prevent live operation. If the solar panel is wet, do not touch it unless you are cleaning the solar panel, but it is required to follow the requirements of the solar panel cleaning manual.

The controller needs low loss, good stability, and long life. It is helpful to connect and install the whole system by making sure whether the controller belongs to the design of the CO negative pole or the design of the CO positive pole. Generally, the controller has corresponding power distribution protection measures. However, during the wiring process, attention should be paid to prevent the phenomenon of polarity reverse connection and short circuit. Pay attention to the angle of placement and avoid rainwater immersion. For the system with an inverter, the inverter shall be connected to the positive and negative poles of the battery when connected.
